NYC Elevator Inspection Certificate Frame Requirements

Where Certificates Must Be Posted
Passenger & Freight Elevators:Inspection certificate must be posted inside the elevator car in a frame with a transparent cover.
Escalators, Moving Walks, Power-Operated Scaffolds: Certificate must be posted on or near the quipment, also in a transparent-covered frame.
Alternate Posting Location (Optional): If certificate is kept in the on-site building manager's office, then:
Office must be open during normal business hours
A notice must be posted in the elevator or at the equipment in a frame or plaque
Notice must include an indelible inscription stating:
"Inspection Certificate is located in the Building Manager’s Office at [location]"
Frame Specification
Must be a durable frame with a transparent cover
Positioned in a conspicuous and accessible location
size 6x9 inch for inspector card

Additional Requirements & Notes
Temporary use certificates must also be posted near the elevator.
Certificates will not be issued for elevators not subject to periodic inspection.
Equipment cannot be operated without a valid inspection certificate and permit.
